The Post Script- Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace are set to light up the fairways at the Investec South African Open, taking place at the Durban Country Club from 27 February to 2 March 2025. Joining them is Tristin Galant, who has received a special Investec invitation as the leading Sunshine Tour Transformation Player.
Schwartzel, the 2011 Masters champion, and Grace, the 2020 Investec South African Open winner, are ready to compete in the second oldest national Open in golf. Grace returns to the tournament with fond memories of his 2020 victory over close friend Louis Oosthuizen. “To win the second oldest Open in the world and with so much history is special. It also makes it special beating a player of Louis’s calibre,” said Grace.
Schwartzel, who has twice finished as runner-up at this event, is determined to finally secure the title. “All golfers want to win their national Open, and it would mean a lot to me to do so,” he shared. Durban Country Club holds sentimental value for Schwartzel, having narrowly missed out on the title there in 2005 and finishing fourth in 2010.
A special moment awaits Tristin Galant, who will compete alongside the biggest names on the Sunshine Tour and DP World Tour. Galant’s participation celebrates Investec’s commitment to transformation in South African golf. He proudly represents the Papwa Sewgolum Class, named after the legendary Sewsunker “Papwa” Sewgolum, whose career was closely tied to the Durban Country Club.
Defending champion Dean Burmester, alongside local favourites Daniel van Tonder, Shaun Norris, Ryan van Velzen, and Robin Williams, will also compete, adding to a stellar line-up of South African talent.
With a $1.5 million prize purse and the historic backdrop of the revamped Durban Country Club, this year’s tournament promises excitement and fierce competition.
