(The Post Script)- Napoli’s title dreams were kept alive after being held to a 2-2 stalemate by Genoa, giving Inter Milan hope for the Serie A title. Inter Milan defeated Torino 2-0, narrowing the gap between the two teams to just one point. Napoli’s bid for a three-season title is still within reach, but they are now forced to win their two remaining matches against Parma and Cagliari.
Antonio Conte commented after the match that Genoa had only two shots on target, but both resulted in goals. In contrast, Napoli had 11 shots on target that only yielded two goals. “I can’t complain; we have to win the remaining matches,” Conte stated in the post-match interview.
The two teams have a long history, with Napoli winning 48 times, Genoa winning 31 times, and 42 draws. In their last four matches, Napoli won two and drew two. Genoa managed to equalize late in the game with a header from Johan Vasquez, putting the score at 2-2.
Napoli dominated the match in terms of ball possession, with 60% to Genoa’s 40%, and had eight corners to Genoa’s zero. Napoli had 22 shots, with 11 on target and five off target. Genoa had a total of eight shots, with four off target and two on target.
Both Napoli and Inter Milan have crucial fixtures remaining, with Napoli facing Parma and Cagliari, and Inter Milan facing Lazio and Como. A win is badly needed for both teams to win the title.
