The Chatsworth Detective Tracing Team acted on intelligence after receiving a tip-off regarding a group of suspects connected to a carjacking case. Surveillance was conducted in Welbedacht East, where the team received information about a suspect driving a silver Toyota Ertiga. The vehicle was spotted and safely intercepted without injuries to the police or suspects.
During interrogation, the arrested suspect provided information about the whereabouts of the outstanding suspects. Based on this information, authorities believed the suspects were traveling from Klaarwater hotels towards Chatsworth. The team strategically positioned themselves on the Higginson Highway, where a spotter vehicle later located the suspects’ car heading toward Chatsworth.
The High-Speed Chase
As the teams moved to block the road, the suspects noticed the spotter vehicle and attempted to flee at high speed. A high-speed chase ensued, during which the suspects tried to avoid the roadblock and lost control, driving up the bank on the side of the road and causing the vehicle to roll multiple times. Five suspects were caught and arrested, with no law enforcement members injured during the planned operation.
Recovery of the Hijacked Vehicle
Further interrogation led to the recovery of the hijacked vehicle, which was stripped beyond recognition and only identified through its VIN number. Two suspects were transported to R.K. Khan Hospital for medical treatment before being discharged. All suspects are expected to appear in court soon.¹
